ballad of the snowflake
A gift for my favourite lady -grins-
One night a-dreaming, I danced my steps
A cross a field of falling snow
One night of pleasure, on freezing feet
Dancing fast, swaying slow
And in my dance, my eyes roamed free
Always in a frenzied search
To find that single, perfect Snowflake,
New-fallen from a cloudy perch.
In my bacchic whirl of steps with
arms upraised to icy sky
That crystal of ice non-pareil
Was made plain to my eye
I lifted it with gentle hand, full
Beautiful, the peerless snow
Knowing it so fragile, so ready
When heat arrives, to go.
I held it softly in my palm, the
icy kiss of snow I felt
And Miracle of miracles, I held it
And it did not melt.
I held it, and it did not melt.
