Beginner here...have story plot, characters, etc. all set up. Need ideas for twists and endings that are NOT predictable. The plot and characters are the typical ones. The story is M/F, nc, revenge, humiliation, bondage, slavery...etc.
I am an avid reader of numerous, well written, and badly written stories, the ending is usually predictable! Any suggestions? Thanks in advance. :help:

While awfully difficult to give out plot advice without a vague plot, how about having someone un-expected come in? A police officer to rescue the kidnap victim? Someone who was "in on the whole thing" gets revenge on the one enslaving the other? Or some other random passerby? How would each of the main characters feel when they saw the new person?Quote:

My view is that the author doesn't have to think of the twist, that's the characters' job! In other words - if you can create interesting and well rounded characters they should contribute a few plot ideas of their own. And don't get hung up on a twist, sometimes a thoughtful and elegant ending is better.

It could be many things - If the pair are stopped for a broken tail light, and it turns out there is an arrest warrant out for one or the other, that would be unexpected.
Tying someone up in an awkward position (such as bent over a chair, or impaled on a dildo pole), then having them move from something may cause a broken bone. How do you explain that on a hospital injury report?
Twists are possible, but are all character and plot dependent.

It is certainly an interesting question though, How does one write a twist.... by definition there cant be a formula.. or else it will just seem formulaic (sp?).. even if it was not predictable. I guess the trick would be to consider what the obvious ending is.. and avoid it at all costs. The danger of twists though is that most seem simply 'tacked' on at the end.. as though the writter got to the end and realised the whole story was far too linear, so they added the long lost brother to make it less so. (linear)
The best twists are written into the story long before they appear. Like: suggesting certain eventuations, which lead the reader to see that the story will not end the way the characters expect (this is called irony[sort of]) and then when it is time to spring the trap, tie in elements of the story that seemed inane at the time, to form and outcome that is both unexpected and resolving.

One of the most common methods of creating a twist is to leave out (ok hide) some important fact about a character or situation. Then when you spring it at the reader it can cast completely new light on what's really going on,

Should a "beginner" not read more? There is a feeling that your longing for a more O'Henry sort of ending might prevail with further preserverance.
