Timberwolf
Into the timber she disappears

Before anyone can see the tears

Her auburn eyes fail to conceal

Must hide and let these fresh wounds heal

No crimson stains on wind swept snow

Lends to the depth of pain below

Deeper still she finds a cave

That offers solitude she craves

Collapsing to its earthen floor

Exhaustion unlike any before

Her dense coat fails to stop the chill

Of emptiness that he once filled

Predicting futures from the past

Love that complete could never last

Her sobs subside, her energy drained

Unable to sleep through the throbbing pain

She lies awake and tries to cope

His enduring friendship her only hope
